Children have a special place in our practice

Life long attitudes can be formed at a very early age. That is why we help parents and their children to develop a plan for positive dental experiences and good dental hygiene from infancy through young adulthood.

Infants and Toddlers:
  • New parents receive information and guidance to help their child grow up cavity free.
  • Toddlers are encouraged to watch Mom or Dad get a check up and cleaning.
  • A child is ready for a ride in the "big chair" by the time he or she is about three.
  • Whatever the child will allow – a visual exam and an assessment of home care, makes this first examination a happy visit.
Kindergarten - 6th Grade Children:
  • Children will have an opportunity to hear the sounds, see the materials, and feel the vibrations before treatment begins and learn what to expect during treatment.
  • Scary words such as "shot", "drill", "hurt", and "pull" are not used. Parents are encouraged to stay away from these negative words as well.
  • Fillings are never discussed as "punishment" for eating candy or not brushing!
  • Comfort items like blankets and stuffed animals are available for children who are anxious or who have had a bad experience in the past. Children are never restrained or sedated!
Middle and High School Youth:
  • Orthodontic evaluations and referrals are made when indicated.
  • Healthy diets and proper, regular home care are stressed.
  • The eruption of wisdom teeth and any potential problems associated with wisdom teeth are assessed starting at age 16.
  • Custom-fitted mouth guards are available to prevent dental injuries during sports.
